Latest UPDATE on neighbors dog (LONG POST)

There is what's needed. People, like the guy who can't keep his dog in check, shouldn't be allowed animals. They should have a system where if you get animal control or some other animal issue reported so many times you get arrested. Similar to the drivers license.

I do believe that those who have a record of a dog at large should need a permit to own one. They should have to demonstrate that they have the facilities to contain the animal, and have their permit revoked if they fail to do so.

Iv'e said it before and I'll say it again. It is up to the dogs owner to keep it safe and out of harms way. This is on the owner of the dog! However one thing I just learned about pitbulls from "Dogtown". They do not feel pain like a normal dog. This is why they can keep going. I can't explain it but you can watch the documentary if you'd like. It's a National Geographic.

Sorry things turned out this way, but you have to protect you and yours. If you hadn't I would have no sympathy for you, only for your birds. Your husband is to be commended.

Good idea having the game cam, but I would suggest that you DON'T put out any food to attract the dog. That could look like you have been doing it all along and negate any chickens that have been lost. The dog was coming over without any food bait before, he'll be back without it again.

I love dogs, but you have to protect your property and family. Sometimes that means having to shoot predators whether they are wild animals or dogs. So sad sometimes.

Although Precious is awesome with our birds and familly, she will not hesitate to chomp down on a rabbit or even an armadillo given the opportunity. But she is fenced in and wont jump the fence. I still don't get why those dumb but cute little bunnies keep coming into the dog yard and nest there!?

Anyway like I said before...Regardless of the breed. THey should not be chained to a tree. JUST CRUEL! And bad owners make for bad pets.....and kids! Sorry but true.

Exciting day for us! We just checked the game came and we caught FOUR dogs sniffing around our pen. The bad news is I have no idea who they belong to and none of them belong to the neighbor. Their great dane is way bigger than these dogs. I have attached a few of the pics to show you. There is another light colored dog, that you can't see in the pic that is bigger. DH says our fence was up and running but I am having my doubts! Either way, dogs are on our property in the middle of the night! CREEPY!

Sorry to hear about your problems with dogs.

Sound to me that it has now turned into a situation where you have to set up better protection for your chickens with all those dogs running around. I have had problems with coyotes and raccoons. I finally shot the raccoon that has been given us a lot of problems trying to get into the coop but the coyote's have done a pretty good job at eluding me! I have a main coop that they get locked into at night, then that area is fenced in with privacy fence sorta like a run, then I have a a much larger area fenced in for them to free range. Then I let them out to other parts of the property only when I know I am going to be out there working on something. I also set up a motion detector light with a small horn attached to it.

I love to tinker around with a lot of stuff and make things and have been thinking of building a motion detector that shoots a paintball gun or Pellet gun.

Similar to what this guy built. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-build-motion-detector-fire-paintball-gun-141979/

What I would also do is get a can of pepper spray and every night before you go to bed spray a lot of the pepper spray on the ground around where the dogs have been sniffing to get into the coup. Or make your own hot pepper concoction to pour around the area...
