I am so irritated that my washing machine broke. Grrrr... I Loved my washer. So I had to wait a week until the tech came out to tell me it was going to cost me the same to repair it as getting a new one(or close to anyway). So we decide to get a new one. It is hard for me to shop for a new washer when I was so happy with the old one. I will probably grow into one of those old grumpy people who just like things the way they are and don't adapt to change terribly well. Now the laundry is piling up around me(I refuse to use a laundromat - I have issues about germs) and I am stuck shopping for a washer that won't be delivered for two days and I am trying to get ready to go out of town for the weekend and and and... It's just one of those days.

Thanks for letting me vent a little. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!! I feel better now, thanks so much!

LOL I know your pain!! Go to the laundromat and do a load of whites with bleach in the washer first. Then use that same washer for your other loads. Takes a little longer, but the bleach will kill the gross germs.

Enjoy your trip. Carrie

Do you have a relative or friend who would let you borrow their washer this one time? Explain that yours is broken and you are waiting for a new one. When ours broke, I took a couple of loads to my mom's and washed them. She would be welcome to do the same here if hers was broken.

Awww, you guys are soo sweet! Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. It is true, that doing a load with bleach first would help kill any germs, but particularly after the tech told me that no washer ever gets completely drained ... yeah, all I can think of is festering germs waiting to attach themselves to my laundry and come home with me. I am sure that if I had to do it, I would. I am not trying to be impolite or inconsiderate to those who go to the laundromat; but some things are irrational phobias and that is one of mine. Sharing germs with people I don't know.

I do have my parents house that I can go to. And I did do some laundry over there so we wouldn't run out of things like socks and such. But they live a good 30 min. away, so it is an all afternoon affair to do a couple loads. Still, nice to see my folks and visit with them - 'cause they still spoil me and my son when we visit.

I love my parents.

Good news is, I found the washer that I want, and am going today to order it!!! YAY!!! It is the Kenmore HE3. Front loader, with - get this - a sanitation cycle. Oh the wonder of wonders!!! Several of my friends have this same washer, and have had it for a while now - they gave me two thumbs up. Yay yay yay!!! They are also dog people, so they understand the type of loads I will be running - those with dog hair.

I hear that the loads spin really fast and practically sucks all the water out of them - cuts drying time in half! That is beyond good news.

Thanks again for letting me share. And also for the kind thoughts and advice. I really do appreciate it.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!!!

It's a shame because it is probably a $15 part that needs to be replaced in your old machine. I take care of most of the re pares in my neighborhood, from washers to TV sets. Most of those service guys are a joke. Seeing that you already paid the guy, did he give you a part #. You can cross reference the part #,and get the part on ebay. With a cordless screw gun you can take a washer apart in just minutes. Might save you a few hundred $.

I was just gonna suggest that you DON'T get an LG frontloader. Mine burned out its motor within 10 months and getting someone to fix it even under warranty was a joke. No one wants to service LG machines - apparently LG does not allow anyone to stock their parts and they pay less than other brands to service them under warranty.

I do love that sanitation feature myself - My LG does have that going for it.

I have a Kenmore HE frontloader washer and dryer....love them. I got the warranty where Sears comes out once a year and does the yearly maintenance.

... Germs, that reminds me of the time we had some real bad floods here in 97. All the people cleaning their homes bought their laundry to the local laundry mats and Oh

, the smell was terrible from all those nasty clothes. Ewww I can still smell it. I never went back to a laundry mat since.

Some motor is burned out and something else to do with the drain mechanism and there was one other thing, but I cannot remember what. But you are right, parts are typically much less expensive and repairs are probably pretty basic - but we have no time, patience, or know-how to do it ourselves. The costs associated with a new washer would probably be nearly equal to the amount of time and labor expenses involved in fixing it at this point - so, might as well go with a new one. This one did last us 7+ years, so that isn't too short a time. It would be great if someone was able to fix it and donate it to a good cause though. But, who knows, maybe they already do that. In which case I would be happy to know we had a part in passing along a loved machine for the good use of others. Or, perhaps they disassemble them and reuse the good parts. The other thing is, this model is actually discontinued. So, I don't know how long we would be able to get parts for it. In any case, it isn't too much of a burden getting a new washer, it is just a hassle when days are busy and filled with lots of other things to get done - besides worrying about deciding on a new major appliance.

Super good news, we are now able to use our fridge water and ice feature. Which is funny and silly and wonderful all wrapped up into one - because we bought the fridge specifically For those features but haven't used them ever, because first the plumbing wasn't correct, then the water thing didn't work. We finally got it fixed and are just as happy as free range chickens to be using the feature!

hee hee hee... I know, sometimes we procrastinate. But why we didn't get it done sooner I do not know. Silly.

Our tech told us to be leary of LG - so we are going with the Kenmore HE3. All our appliances are Kenmore and we have liked them really well. Getting service on them has been a breeze. Well, not that we really needed much service because they have been working great - but when we do call they have been great about it. It is a company I would feel comfortable recommending.

Blah - I can just imagine the smell of dirty clothes and mold etc. Eewwww....

You can use your bathtub to wash your clothes in. I had to do that for almost a whole week once while ours was broken - My DH couldn't fix it so he bought me a new one. Although I don't even have a dryer because I like to stay as green and do things myself as much as I can...I certainly appreciate the invention of the washing machine! whew....
