Roosters are basically useless

I love having a rooster in my flock, he does all the flock management and I just feed, cleaning, and enjoy them. I just not so love the loud crow, that is because I live in the city and no rooster allowed.

Now I have a tiny Pekin frizzle rooster, 7 months old and not know his roostery manner, not share food with his hens, he is recently join and a new comer from the outside.
I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it!

Yesterday I was over joy that he walked up the high stairs and looked into our back door. I walked out and 4 hens mid way up the stair and poops everywhere. He had chosen his flock and they chose him as well. I have 3 flocks, 2 standard size flocks and 1 bantam. He picked the the flock that has 4 hens, 1 is the biggest in my yard and one is the oldest. When I locked his chosen flock away and let him mingle withe the other 2 flocks, he crows and he crow while standing at their gate looking in.

Any of my chicken that walk up the stair and look into the door, that chicken is home, they know my garden where, what and where to find the slave that take care of them😄❤️

.....Update,my darling tiny rooster Pekin has now caused damage to my hen Rose, who is a black Wyandottee. He jumped on her, held tight to her head feather, but he flipped over her head, landed on the ground, but still held tightly to her head feather and she is now has a bald patch on her head.....I am sadden by this baldness. My beautiful Rose has a full silky sheen black feather, I love looking at her and he ruined her good feather ....I am so very sad.

He goes crazy early in the morning and late afternoon for mating time and he jumps at any hen near by, when one run of, he chases other. It is starting to feel chaotic when the hens running for cover. Pretty and Sunny, both hens refuse to go out mingling with the flock, they stay in the run to avoid the tiny rooster.

Besides hatching only other thing I use them for is eating lol. They dont protect hens at all. So once I’m done with them for that season freezer they go.
I agree.
I had a coop attack, and all they did was save themselves. The 3 roosters made it out, and I lost 16 hens. :hit

My two roosters I lost were very good roosters they fought till the end you could tell by the aftermath 🥺 Our head rooster was right at where we are pretty sure the predator got in and it was NOT where he spent his nights early mornings at. And our other rooster was with his favorite hens on the other side of the coop protecting the littlest hen we had. I know some roosters are bad, but those guys were great! I miss them a lot!

Maybe they were trying to lead them to safety but they were too stubborn to follow.
