and ya the leg feathering would be the only issue r you starting a project??? i think i read that up there wasnt for sure because they would be really pretty!!!! you could also try breeding up that is how they are doing it w/ the lav LF ameraucanas they are taking a bantam lav roo and breeding him to LF black hens!!! so you could take a bantam lav roo and breed him to LF black cochin hens....just thought i say that and js partridge cochins do have bad leg feathers!!!! i have 2 believe me

Good idea! My hens are large gals from exhibition stock, so I would have to make sure he could do his thing.

They would be interesting- but if I picture my big cochins in lav I see giant dust bunnies

I still think it would be a fun project- and I'd surely buy some or offer space/birds if needed.

Yes, black x lav produces 100% split lav offspring provided the black isn't het for lav. If it is, then the offspring would be 50% lav, 50% het lav.

You would get buff, black, and a mix of the two, with 100% being het for lav.

pretty cool! I think Ill wait on it till spring!

You could breed up size from the bantams if you crossed them onto Large fowl birds. And you wouldn't have to worry about losing type to much or leg feathering.

If you do it, you may get some nice big fluffy looking birds that would work great in a lavender orpington project as well.

i would stay with large breeds for the project, there are plenty of lavender Roo's popping up here and there that would work great..be nice if you had some cochins with white skin to, which there are some outthere..

We are going to be breeding our lavender projects to another Black orp line very soon, but i had often thought about adding some gaint Cochin blood in to one day at least to maybe one of the breeding pens, Even though there is cochin blood in some of the orps already, a bit more may bring that big english look like over in the UK, just cull a bit and keep what looks like you need.. May take some time to remove leg feathering but it can be done, i may even consider buying some of your split culls that don't fit your Cochin projects, if staying within the large breed lines(no bantam blood)

Hope you go for it, should be a neat project which ever breed you choose to work towards, but i would surly keep Orps in mind..
