Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

Pics
North Central PA. I know the pictures are awful but it's cold, rainy and muck out there! He has the beard and muffs. I'm glad to hear that his color and tail are OK. I was set to keep him and was shocked when he attacked the Redcap. He has always been kind of the peacemaker. Too bad he's not smart enough to think... I'm going to be all alone if I don't play nice!

All I know is the top breeders of Ameraucanas are showing Lavenders at the shows.
While I am not a "top breeder", I just returned from The Four Corners Poultry Show and my third year of exhibiting Lavenders at this APA show. There were 2 other Ameraucana exhibiters. It was nice to have some competition in the breed.

Clare,
Your doing better than myself. I haven't shown any chickens since the mid 1970's but then there were no Ameraucanas just EE's in those day. Hope to get out this coming year 2013 since I found someone to take care of my birds possibly.
Did you post the results on ABC site for the show?

I have one lone lav roo... he was in with 8 other cockerels that he grew up with. He has been driving several of the cockerels out of the house. He doesn't let them come in even at night and has severely injured one of the young Redcaps. Are Ameraucanas usually so aggressive? Right now he's in a run by himself. I was going to move a few (summer broody) Silkies into that run... I'm sick of them sleeping in the nest boxes. . All the cocks are close in age but he's the largest in size. I have a couple of black Ameraucana hens... mostly just wanted blue eggs. I need to keep him there and fight the dirty egg boxes or rehome him. I don't know much about Ameraucanas but I don't want to breed progressively more inferior stock. I'd like to share a couple of photos and get some comments as to his "worth" as a possible breeder.. I realize the pictures aren't great but it is still raining here. Thank you for any thoughts you any to share.
At 12 weeks

Now 5-6 months but bleary.

He has some maturing to do. I wouldn't make any decision on him yet. Put up another [hopefully better] picture in 2 months. If your Black hens are any good you have the ingredients you need.

I just got home and trying to contain the disaster from prepping 33 birds for the show (9 Ameraucanas). I have to steal the camera back from my DH to post pics.

Also went Champion Feather Legged with a Light Brahma bantam in the Open show, and my son went Reserve Champion of Show in the Youth show with a Buff Brahma bantam and Champion Large Fowl. (but that is another thread,,,) excuse the proud mom for bragging.

Lav pullet (usually carries her tail higher

) I haven't posted pics of her before. I took her because she has the tightest feathering of this years pullets. She is quite young and not laying yet.

Thank you both for sharing your thoughts. I guess I'm pleased that he's worth waiting to see. Now if I could house break the Silkies! I could add the Am pullets to his run for company... I don't know about them (quality ways) ... I think they are fairly good but they are younger than he is.
I will post again and with better pictures in a few months. Thanks again. Jan

Clare, aka Dak,
She looks nice. Sorry, I was not trying to hurry you up to post pictures or give results. Congratulations on you and your son's win with the Brahmas.

No problem Harry!

I posted a link on the ABC forum to the rest of the pics I posted on the Ameraucana thread. I just can't work the ABC forum like this one.

Wish they would make it easier to post pics.
