Lavender ameraucana approximately 10 weeks old. Any ideas if this is a cockerel or pullet? I have 2 and this ones comb is much wider than the one. Also does anyone have insight on ways I can help their feather quality? They are very scraggly compared with my marans. Thank you.

Looks like a pullet. I have a buff orpington has the same issue with her feathers. I don't know why, otherwise she seems healthy and the rest of the flock doesn't have that issue. I've heard lavenders have that problem too so maybe it's just genetic?

I don't think anything will help because it's due to genetics, not a deficiency.
Thank you for your insight. I just worry that they aren’t as protected if they get wet, and I live in Canada where it gets very cold and I hope they are properly protected. Both of my lav ameraucanas have the shredded feathers.

As long as they have a nice wind-free coop to go into, they will be okay.
