So I am going to try and work on the lavender faverolles project and lavender salmon faverolles project. What breed should I use? I have D'uccles growing out I was also thinking about bringing a cochin into the mix to keep the chunk and heft of the faverolles. Faverolles have 5 toes, beards, medium foot feathering, and a trapazoidal body shape. What do you guys think? I need to breed splits and then breed the splits back or breed splits to more splits. I have followed the orpington project. What do you think I should do D'uccles or cochins or something else. I am looking to buy an older roo so I can get underway instead of waiting 6+ months.

Well to compare breeds, I think the Faverolles would have more of the Cochin look in them than the D'uccles. Besides the D'Uccles are more upright and they have fifth toes and have the beard and muffs you need to carry that down on the Favs.

Personally I would use the Lavender D'Uccles over the Black Favs or vise versa or both if you have room, to start off from. Keep bringing back the Black Fav back into it to keep the Faverolle type as you go down the line.

Thanks that is the plan we will start two lines of Lavenders and I will also be working on Lavender salmon. I am getting a pair of blacks soon! I have Lavender D'uccles chicks growing out but I am looking for some breeding age roosters. The plan is to use the lavender rooster over the black hen and hatch from the cross. Then breed the Brother/ Sisters or possibley trade males in the splits and breed split to split for 25% lavenders. When we have the lavenders we will breed them back to the black faverolles to get more splits with better type and keep repeating the process. I have decided to devote my whole coop to this project meaning the blue salmons and all birds of other breeds will have to be sold off

. I love faverolles thought so its fine! It will be at least 2 years before we seen anything resembling a lavender faverolles unless I can find a breeding age rooster now and then it would be done sooner.

That would be interesting!!!!!!!!!!!

As long you have the Black Favs for your project, you would not have to worry too much.

As for the lavender SALMON, it would be like those light blue ones which I am not sure if it would generate that much interest. However the PURE SOLID lavender color, yep!

Ya I may keep only a pair of salmon hens to use for this project I am really going to be clearing out that is the only way my parent will maintain the growout for this project is if I have them all in one easy to maintain space.

Ah, but with the lav gene I think the mahogany would be diluted as well. So lav salmon may not look quite like the light blue salmons.
