Then...the chicklets! Two (molted?) Lavenders. One has a spot and a 'saddle' of Lavender, the other just has the spot. Then of course, the blue

Those are the ones that the broody hatched, I see! You got a black (picture # 2) from my project (Lavender over Light Sussex), and the next one is a black mottled, I believe.

The last three that you got the other day are 2 Lavender Mottled and an (unrelated) blue chick.

Fun, aren't they?

The third one is just black (not mottled). How old are they? The first 3 look rooish already. Very cute!

Here are a few pics of the chicks I got from Kathy a few weeks ago. They are about 5 1/2 weeks old if I am figuring right. Mostly healthy, excepting the feather issues with the small fella. I am hoping some of you more seasoned chickeners (is that a word?) can help me sex them I have my own ideas, we'll see if I have any clue as to what I am doing.

I am thinking cockeral

I am guessing Pullet. This one is also colored a bit differently.

Another Pullet, she's the big one in the group.

The little one. Name has been Raggedy Ann, but may be an Andy....

YAY!!! I have everyone in Missouri getting Lavenders! WOOHOOO ! ! !

Tom,
I had 2 slow feathering ones like that, from my first hatch (from Sarah). DAFox has those 2, and they turned out beautifully. I have read that slow feathering is a good trait to have in other breeds. I wonder if that is true in these, also. I am wondering if that off colored one might be a Lavender "mottled" chick. We will have to ask Jody about that one.

As far as sexing them .... HA, I am no good at that! I usually figure it out by the time they lay or crow!

Well, they all have black legs, and most have black beaks. I guess as far as sexing them goes, I'll take them out somewhere and just watch to see which restroom they use.

They're a little young for sexing yet, but based on combs, they are all looking girly. I dont' see any signs of redness yet or wattles.
