I incubated and hatched two lavender orpingtons and they are about 6.5 weeks now. It’s my first time ever hanging chickens and I was convinced they were hens since they are super shy polite and friendly. However they have combs and waddles! Now I’m slightly suspicious, does it look like they are both cockerels?? 😳

I also have 4 randoms (suppose to be lavenders but must have had a mix up in eggs so no idea what breed or gender they are 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Well dang! I guess hatching random farm eggs doesn’t have good odds hah.

The two black ones though don’t have any sign of a comb or wattle so I’m hoping they are hens! 🤞🏼

This question is absolutely not related to your post but I was wondering if you know what variety your raspberry in the pot is! Is it a smaller variety that grows well in pots?
(Also, I think your lavenders are cockerels. I have a 14 week old lavender Orpington pullet and she hardly has any comb or wattles)

Oh my blackberry and raspberry bushes in the pots are from a company called Bushel and Berry they are my favorite because they are thornless and do really well in containers.

And dang I was hoping their sweet personalities meant they were hens but I guess that’s not always the case!

Thank you! I grow berries in the ground in the chicken yard but I also wanted some container ones for the deck, so now I have to go find myself some of those plants! :)

A lot of times the roosters are some of the sweetest chicks! Then when they grow up they tend to become more distant, and turn more aggressive. However, adult roosters can be sweet too, it just depends. The hens typically turn sweeter and mellow out way more when they grow up, especially once they start laying. For what it's worth, Orpington roosters are known to be more docile and easy going so if you are allowed to have roosters or don't mind having one, they could turn out to still be nice.

Here's a picture of my lavender Orpington, Bonnie, for comparison. She is the one at the front.
