hi all! Our lavender Orpingtons are 8 weeks. I have an opinion about their genders, but I'd love to hear other thoughts.

The thing that throws me is that the lighter one is smaller than the other two.

Thanks!

From my experiences raising 2 lavender Orpington pullets this year the one thing that threw me was their early comb development. One definitely developed more than the other, but both turned out to be the pullets they were sexed as.

After all that said I think you have pullets. I also had a darker and a lighter one so coloring didn't help me either.

I'm gong to say both pullets, but don't quote me on that as I currently have a confussed 20w cockerel lavender orpington (confussed as in his gender still seems rather undecided) but i also have a 10w cockerel LO that has much larger and redder comb and waddles then either of your 2

At 8 weeks old I'd expect a much larger and redder comb for a cockerel and to hear it crow unless you have a dominant rooster already. I'm voting pullets.
8 weeks won't necessarily crow with or without a rooster in the flock, neither my confussed 20w or my 10w cockerel crow yet and I've never had a rooster

I have had English Lavender Orpintons since 3 days old. Picture number one looks like a rooster due to the tail angle and waddle and the other two appear to be hens at this age. It is hard to tell so young. I had guesses about mine at this age but everyone says to wait until 12 weeks. However, some do develop later than others so be careful before culling or re-homing that unwanted rooster. I love mine. They are very gentle and talkative regardless of gender.
