THIS GIRL REMINDS ME OF ME WELSUMMERS! PRETTY TOO

Hi Kiki!
You have a good eye -- because Wesummers are he same 'wild type' plumage as brown leghorns, from what I know. Technically she is a brown leghorn I'm pretty sure (well her mama hen was a Legbar and she lays blue eggs. Because of the way the Barring gene is passed along, she has no barring gene, but she does have 1 recessive lavender. (one recessive cream too -- which is something I will need to breed out of the flock to get nice colors in my project). Her tail is out of the picture but it is the requisite black.

She is in with a split roo.

-- Just now, one of my Cream Legbars seems to be broody -- I will give her a day -- and then set or two to be sure- and then put some of this chickens eggs under her to hatch as a test hatch. This is another place the chicken calculator comes in handy --

There is a 1/16 chance that I could get a female that is 'Lavender Patterned Isabel Duckwing Barred' (LPIDB) from now on to save keystrokes and a 1/16 chance to get a male with 1 barring gene that is LPIDB. There is a 1/16 chance to get a plain Isabel male and 1/16 chance to get a plain Isabel female. This would be the hens first time to be broody -- and I have 4 of this little pullet's blue eggs on the counter. It would be the first blue-egg hatch in my project if successful.

All your info is still "chinese" to me...
I am so interesting in all of what you have shared so far but I have no real clue what any of it means! LOL
I am planning on learning from this thread, but I need to learn the basics first..
I didn't even know there was a difference between sex link and auto sexing.

I LOVE to learn and look forward to bugging you with questions when I need too!

You seem very smart to a newbie like me!
Thanks again!

And you are in Texas which just makes more interested in following you!
I'm sure I will be seeing you soon!

When I first encountered chicken genetics it was like alphabet soup - but there are some very good 'tutorials' on the internet. I'll list some that have good basic stuff -- and then after you beat your head against the wall for awhile -- it will suddenly click into place like pieces of a puzzle.

sounds good.

Yay!!! the first hatch for today.

Look how much this one baby rose the humidity in the incubator. -- I suppose the difference between the air temp and inside temp is a factor. There are 3 others already pipped. So I will pass out cigars for the new baby. (people don't even DO that any more do they?)

Here is something so interesting about chicks, dorsal stripes and chick down
700
Sorry its a bad pic. Excluding the blue chick in the corner the other five are all wild type brown leghorns. The one in the foreground is an isabelle leghorn. The really dark one is a dark brown leghorn and the other three are light brown leghorns.
