Maybe! Belly looked gold and coppery. Like when dyed hair looks brassy. I'm sure it's from being wet, but it didn't appear "brown." Then again, there's condensation that part of the window, and I was fighting for viewing room with Jasper. So morning will tell. :D

They're so cuddly and sweet. :love They all trek to whoever is freshly hatched to dog pile them. The poor baby in the basket is so frantic to cuddle. :(

Three isabels? They have a silvery sheen.

I'm always the optimist~ -- sounds like you probably named it right. OH -- your dog is so adorable there...
First chick out is Isabel!

That is so great!

Love that photo too. Silvery look is usually Isabel when dried -- and I never know for certain as of yet -- but it's a strong indicator. ;O) Once they fluff -- then you know for sure.

Love the photo of your dog watching "Chick Hatch," I guess everything is fascinated by Chicken TV

Your hatch looks just fabulous!!!

also I can see there is a page from your book that I may want 'borrow' -- The colored baskets to keep the eggs apart once you do lockdown right? -- I have Gail Damerow's book Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens - and she has instructions in there to make a pedigree basked from hardware cloth. The instructions are also available on the internet. -- I was going to construct some from that plastic stuff that they used to use with yarn cross stitch - if I could find it at my local WalMart. -- but your idea is better -- you found ready-made baskets right? -- and then do you just put them over the eggs upside down? The limitations would be the depth of a person's particular incubator if I am visualizing it all correctly. Your idea is pretty brilliant IMO. -- In the past I always had one small incubator and single thread hatching eggs from only one known pair -- now I have bigger capacity so this will help me a lot. Thanks!

ETA I'm excited for your babies -- and can't wait to see fluff pictures.

You are exactly right about the baskets, but I can't take credit. Sally Sunshine's incubating/hatching thread is full of ingenious and innovative plans. I tried the diy from the plastic needlepoint sheets and bread ties, but they didn't quite hold their shape and were overall not worth the effort.

These baskets were clearanced after Halloween at my local dollar general. With Easter soon upon us you'll have plenty of baskets to choose from! a member of Sally's thread uses strawberry baskets, the old green plastic kind. I've seen fast food baskets at Walmart that I think would be good, too. The red kind like when you go to a diner and get a burger and fries. One might not be deep enough, but you could make a clamshell with two and wire it closed.

Fourth one out (non basket chicks) is Isabel. I feel like I've won some sort of genetic lottery! That's 1/3 of the total. Three left have nice big pips, and five are still quiet.
