They were drinking water when I did this and poor Teal aspirated a bit. I put it down and it laid there, tongue out, all straight. So I grabbed it, massaged, tipped it upside down and straight up alternately. It was gasping, so I stretched its neck and held its head straight (it was totally limp). Eventually it revived! That's why it's eye is closed.

Making my own notes here:
Orange, Yellow, green and maybe teal are female.

I use this word "are" like I am an expert!
Please pay NO ATTENTION to this post.

Campingshaws - those photos are first rate! What a charming bunch of 1-week olds! Your pictures are sooo good and the heads, backs of heads and dorsal stripes are our 'tells' of course. That's if our part-way-there chicks can be sexed by down. -- and I think that there are a lot of strong clues. Glad you gave CPR to the litte one with eyes closed....

I use my iphone. Point and click.

Edit: poor little Teal was doing better at that point. I put it down once and it's head lolled, so I carried it until it began that loud distress peep. I put it back and it sprang into the mob.

Oh yeah, that is another amazing use for smart phones..I forgot to mention - in addition to the free apps, and the driving directions -- a camera that you have at hand all the time that takes pictures that good. Worth it's weight in gold. Don't use my phone for photos -- so I forget about that application. Plus you have a free hand to hold the chick....brilliant -- and that set of pictures is superb.

Glad little Teal fully recovered. Chicks are amazing.

You guys are so talented! I don't know how you can hold a thin slippery phone with no handles taking pictures with one hand while holding on to a chick trying to get away in the other hand. I can't do it. I need two hands for my phone. One to hold it, and the other to touch the camera button to take the picture.
