Lavender somethings...

I received 6 Lavender orpingtons from Meyer hatchery a month ago. They had slate colored legs and mostly dark beaks.

I also hatched eggs a friend gave me from his supposed Lavender Orpingtons. I've seen the parents. As far as I knew they were LOs. Well....these chicks have orange feet and beaks. They look similar to my hatchery LOs in every way except for the feet. Could they possibly be another breed?

An Orpington should never have yellow or orange legs. Pink, white, gray or slate all with a tendency towards white. They must be mixed or a different breed.

They're almost 2 weeks old, is it possible that leg color will darken? They're not mixed as far as I can tell...unless the parents were crossed with something. I remember the parents being very lavender, almost purple looking at sundown (but I can't remember their feet).

I'm wondering now if they could be wyandottes? Everything else "lavender" has slate feet for the most part.

Look at the comb type. Wyandotte have a rose comb. Are those legs more pink, pictures can distort colors.

 

[Gray Farms]

Pinkish/yellowish legs in Lavender Orpingtons at hatch is common. They'll darken when they get older. No need to worry just yet.
