Does anyone know the laws for owning chickens in Phoenix, AZ?
I live in a condo with a small backyard- we already built the coop and plan on getting two chickens tomorrow, a silkie and a frizzle, just for pets.
If anyone knows, please let me know,
Thank you,

I'm from Phoenix, Arizona!!! A True Native!! Welcome aboard!!! Now I live in Arkansas, and I'm loving it!! Anyway,, As far as chickens in Phoenix goes, its according to your local laws. You might check with the people next door on this one. I lived at Cave Creek and Beardsley Road area, and we all had chickens. Yet I know you can't have them just down the Road at Bell and 32 street area. So Your goin to have to do a little home work on this one. Check with the people around you, on your block first. People in Phoenix are pretty friendly, and open. Good Luck,,,

Its all in what you can get away with here,,,also the ASPCA can give you the "legal" end of all this. Pretty much if the people around you don't care,,,then go for it. Now my post is complete,,haha

Thank you!
I grew up right at cavecreek and beardsley!, in the mobil home park on the corner, by circle K and the cactus place- do you remember all of that? We had chickens there too.
I now live at 7th st and thunderbird- I only have one neighbor that might give me grief but we will just have to wait and see- if she does I will just invite her over to meet the chickens, they are iresistable!
I am jealous of you living inthe "wilds of Arkansas"- it must be wonderful there and beautiful weather!
Thank you again and nice talking to you,

Hello again Luna,,,,yes I know those places,,,,I grew up on 26th street and Beardsley back in the 70's!!! Everyone out there at that time lived in Moblie homes. We were out in the middle of the desert at that time!!! I used to get off the bus at that corner at circle K. Do you remember the water tank that used to set just back from the corner, of CaveCreek and Beardsley?? It would have sat on the N.W. corner, just back from the road (Cave Creek). They removed it in the mid 70's. We used to go there and water our horses when we were out riding. Small world,,,and great to meet someone from the old stomping ground. I went to Paradise Valley High,,,Class of 1980!!!

You can have up to twenty hens on the first half acre. If you have more, you need a full acre. Hens cannot be closer than 80 foot to any residence, unless you have written permission from the occupants.

Read section 8-7 of the city code. It is pretty much impossible to legally keep chickens in the city, unless you have a lot of land.

But face it, we are criminals, so we can do whatever we want until we are caught.

Out of sight, out of mind. Keep your chickens, but don't let anyone know about it. If you live in a place with a HOA, you have got more problems than a few chickens.

Good Luck,

Rufus
