Hello to all. I am new to keeping hens and roos but the bug has bit me hard. I have 6 hens that are ready for layer feed but what do I do about my rooster that is in with them. Will he be fine eating the layer feed? Thanks in advance.

That's what I do. I have 8 hens and a roo. They are all on layer feed and are very healthy. I'm fairly new to this as well, so I'm curious if I'm doing the right thing too. How would you give them separate food -- and what would you give him? All I know is starter, grower and layer food....

some say no problem, others choose not to feed roos the same thing. I asked Purina Mills directly, and their response was that it's perfectly safe & fine for the roos to eat the layer feed w/ extra calcium; that they will excrete it without it doing any damage to any of the roo's internal organs or systems. Consequently, mine all eat Purina layer pellets.
