So this year I switched it up and got some different breeds of chicks in April
I've had Easter eggers before but I also decided to try some black sex links.
Previously I had Barred Rocks, Rhode island reds, and Easter eggers.
I'm loving these new birds and their laying like crazy even in winter time.
So I know that my black sex links peak of laying will be in 2 years and then drop off drastically.
My question is is that two years from when they were born? Or two years from when they started Laying?
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of getting the same breeds again next time and I want to be able to just rotate them out.
The older hens will go into a jar as canned soup once the new ones start laying.
Knowing the answer will help me decide when to get my new chicks when these ones need to be replaced.
Just for the record egg Laying is the main reason for me keeping chickens.
My secondary reason is for the compost for my garden.
And the third reason is because I like raising chickens. Watching them, feeding them, and all that.
