Hi all

My Mallard duck laid her first egg ever four days ago, she laid it in a nest we provided for her problem is she hasn't laid one since, is this normal, will she start laying again?

My other duck had problems walking I can't see anything on her feet, our farm hand says he thinks the drake might have hurt her while mating as he can be a bit ruff, We have separated her from the drakes for about a week now her limp is looking a little better today, will she be ok, will she walk properly again?

Also can you please help me identifying this breed of duck? They are black with white markings & the drake is black with white & a green head???

Thank you

1. Yes, it's normal for first time layers to take a bit to become regular. It's also possible she's hiding them.

2. She may have a niacin deficiency, try giving her vitamin supplements.

3. Are those your pictures? The first one looks like a type of goose , the second one looks like a bantam duck, the third one is a black Swedish bib, the 4th one looks like a Muscovy and the last one looks like a bantam duck as well. If not, perhaps a magpie.

So, I don't know where you shot those but they're not all the same breed

Hi There

Thank you for your advice will def look into getting the hurt duck some kind of supplement.

The Mallard is still young so thanx was a bit worried about her but will give her time to regulate.

The pics are from a local farmer wanting to sell off some of his stock he emailed them to me but as I am not sure of the breed I'm skeptical to get them, " I dont want to just get birds from just anywhere & not know anything about them"

Thanks again

Well those are some funky birds.

Personally, I'd get them. They all look healthy and they are very pretty. If they're laying eggs, what would it hurt? Unless you're breeding and don't want mutts, but that doesn't bug some people.
