I have 8 chickens. They have been laying great for a couple of months now. I have 1 that has started laying in the box all day. Yesterday we heard this awful screaming which come to find out was the chicken in the laying box. We kept eye on her and she wld basically stay in the box all day. My husband started searching read about not being able to pass the egg and it can kill them. So we used vegetable oil and rub in her vent and soaked her in warm water to try and speed the process up. Nothing and last night she was in same spot trying to lay and this morning in different box but still trying to lay. She makes a noise and ruffles her feathers when we open the box to check on her but just sits there. Any suggestions on what we can do to help her. She is my sons and he is worried she will die.

I haven't looked up broody. I will. No we didn't feel for egg. Need to do that to I guess.
She is drinking a lot. She has been eating. When she comes out of box she has ate some

It does sound like she's broody. If you are not going to let her hatch eggs then it's best to break her out of the broodiness. They don't eat or drink well while sitting and it can be hard on them, especially in the heat of summer. No reason for her to go through it if she's not going to hatch anything. Here is a link on breaking a broody, I use the dog crate method myself, but just raise it up on 2x4's or 4x4's. I put mine in my run so she can still see and be seen. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/how-to-break-a-broody-hen.181289/
