Laying eggs and 'squatting'?

Today this morning one of my BR hens just dropped an egg, her throat was going in and out like she was gasping, i would if i just pushed an egg out of my ***. today my Marans hen was doing the same thing, no egg. is this the 'squatting' i hear about? does this mean my marans will lay soon? If she will, i cant wait!!

When they squat the crouch down wings out, has nothing to do with breathing. I don't know how hot it is where you are, here in Pa. its unseasonably hot. My guess they were just panting they do that to help keep cool and sometimes when laying/.

Well actually the Marans always has wings out and crouches... yay eggs coming soon! it is hot here in boston area massachusetts. 80-90 degrees out. feel so bad for the marathoners.

They might be warm. In the summer my chickens will pant when they're laying, to cool down.

But yes, wings down and crouching means you'll have a layer soon.
