laying eggs

I know this has been addressed over an over but how do you get a hen to lay in the nest box? this is only her 2nd egg first off of the roost then today right in the middle of the chicken coop. I had another one that started laying off of the roost but only once never again went into the nest box form their on. I have waited for 27 weeks for these marans to start to lay an now this. I think that the other chickens played soccer with the egg cause it was all dirty like it had been rolled around.ell any help will do thanks

Have you put a wooden egg in the nest yet? It usually encourages them to lay in the right place.

I have been picking the eggs that are on the floor up and placing them in the boxes
and leaving them in there for a while so they can see them.
Maybe they will figure it out.

Sometimes it takes them a little bit to figure it out. Put a fake egg (or anything somewhat egg-shaped) in the nest and give them some cushioning with straw or other type of bedding to make it cozy and keep it clean and dry, they'll get the idea (I hope).
