Well my enclosure is about um 20by20 so its big. I have a large lamp hanging inside and its covered all the way. She has a parrot cage iside. Kinda like an aviary is what she has got. But she lays under the lamp, on a small nest box beneath it. its been getting cold here in cerntal Ca. I asked 2 friends and their hens stopped laying. Is something wrong with my silkie?

It's been in the 30's/40's here and my hens are still laying when last year they stopped laying as soon as fall arrived.

My trio of silkies are not in a heated building but the do have a light on 12 hours a day. I have been getting 1 egg every to every other day. Its been getting REALLY cold here in the teens the last few nights.

I think they just do what they want to keep us on our toes.

I don't use extra light, but mine free range.
They lay more eggs in winter than in summer, (once past molt, anyway) because I don't have half of them on maternity leave, brooding or raising chicks all the time, like in summer.
