Laying while roosting

Just wanted to add some post-script data:

We had a barred Plymouth rock start laying at about 23 weeks and she did it in the nest boxes perfectly for two weeks.

[We had wooden eggs in our nest boxes, but she pushed every one out in the days leading up to her laying, so we just removed them from the coop. We didn't want to "mess up" her nest box style.]

After about two weeks she started laying from the roost for four or five days. Right around the time our second pullet began laying (again perfectly, in the nest box) the first hen laid one egg on top of the nest boxes.

Ever since (almost a week now) they both have been laying in the nest boxes with no issues. The other three have not started laying yet.

We figured she was working the kinks out in her laying system and now it appears that was the case.

Another interesting point: we call her a ninja egg layer. She makes zero noise before during or after laying.
