Yes it is called a Dust Bath. When chickens are hot they will throw cool dirt on themselves. Mine do it all the time.

it is also away to clean themselves.

When I first saw my chickens dust bathing I thought they were hurt lol !!! I checked them up and down but nothing was wrong, I finally found out what it was!!!
