Lazy Peachick

Just ended the third round of fluid, now he got 60ml of water and 90ml of pedialyte.

I will give him metronidazole now, he still acting the same way, at least he isn't getting worse.

If he is holding his own and not getting worse, that is good news. That may give the medicines time to work, and for his body to take the fluid back into itself and rehydrate.

Oh dear, I think I confused you... we were going to do four rounds of 30 ml each... so 120 altogether. But 150 ml, if he is keeping it down, is good, probably even better. If he just had fluids, wait a little bit before giving the metronidazole so he doesn't vomit it up.

Did you see what AugeredIn said earlier about crushing it and giving it with a little bit of water? That may increase the absorption.
I already gave him the metronidazole, but how i crush it? Like crushing coffee beans?

There are various ways to crush a pill. The biggest problem is keeping all the little pieces from flying away or skittering off your surface.

You can put the tablet in the bottom of a bowl, and press the back of a spoon against it firmly, until it breaks into small pieces.

You can put it onto a cutting board and carefully cut it into small bits (this tends to send pieces jumping off the counter)

You can buy a pill crusher in the pharmacy section of the store sometimes... often they have something that screws down onto the pill and crushes it.

You can use the bottom of a sturdy glass in a bowl, like the spoon.

You can use a mortar and pestle if you have one.

You could use a grinder, like for coffee, as you mentioned but I think you would lose a lot of the medicine.

I have mortar and pestle, i guess i will feed him next pill with the fluid.

Sometimes I just crush the pills between two spoons.

@casportpony , Othman has now given the bird 150 ml of fluids and all the meds for today. It must be into the wee hours of the morning in Kuwait.

Does he (should he?) give more pedialyte to the bird tonight? Or should he wait until morning to give more fluids, and then start the baby bird food once he has it?

150 is fine for now. I would probably give more fluids and meds in the am, go get tube and baby bird food, then tube baby bird food mixed at 1 part food, 1.5 to 2 parts water and give 60ml of that.

Can he give the second dose of Baytril first thing in the morning, or does he need to wait 24 hours?
