Learn from my error - it killed my pullet

Do you know the % Ca that was present in that layer?

My mill uses the 2-3% in grower and layer, then they recommend adding a calcium supplement on the side when the hens are laying,,,these guys supply a lot of poultry houses in the area so I usually don't question their standards.

These fellows are also negative about pushing hi-protein to growers,,,against common thoughts with today's standards.

Being new at this I'm curious to what others here might think.

I use Purina Layena which has a little over 3% calcium and about 16% protein. The Starter feed for babies is less than 1% calcium.

I've just learned the hard lesson of not starting any earlier than 18 weeks now. What are these "acidifiers" you speak of? Would that be the organic Apple Cider Vinegar or something different? I plan to start adding some to the water tomorrow and giving the other "babies" some cooked egg.

I don't think I could ever do the processing myself and it would be tough to decide who would draw the short straw
