Chapter Three
The Hunt

"Um, What's that smell?" asked Gypsi. "I smell it too!" Said Lea. "Oh dear, They wouldn't stay stay away long would they?" said one of the older mares. "They never do." Agreed the old mare's friend. "They never do."
"What? Who's they?" asked Lea and Gypsi at the same time. "Wolves." said the old mare. "They always follow us."
"Herd mates!" said Feather. "We know that wolves are bad news, but we've out run them before, have we not?" she asked, challenging someone to speak opposite her. "Get ready to run. It's time to go."
The foals shivered at her words, they knew that wolves could kill a foal if she was not fast enough. Not too far from the herd they heard a wolf pack howling. They saw the wolves come towards them. "Run!" said Feather. the herd ran for their lives, with Gypsi and Lea smooshed in between them. The wolves howled, not far behind the herd.

Chapter Four
The Trap

Above the sound of running hooves, Lea and Gypsi heard a sound. A sound loud enough to be heard above the hooves. The sound of a horse that is in distress.
"No! This can't be happening!! No!" The foals heard it loud and clear. It was Feather. She had led them the way that none wanted to go. She had led them into the canyon.
The herd stopped in the end of the canyon, disbelieving that this was happening. "No!" wailed Feather. She had failed her herd, and now they would pay the price, the ultimate price for her foolishness.

The wolves howled. The prey had caught itself.

"Herd, we must fight the wolves. There is no other choice but die." Said Feather. "Foals, go to the wall of the canyon. Elders, stand next to the foals with your rumps turned out. Mares, Turn your rumps towards the entrance to the canyon." The horses moved so that they were moved the way Feather wanted them. "Alright. Now, when I say your section, start kicking out towards the wolves. We can and will defeat them. Now, get ready."

The wolves came closer.

"Gypsi? I'm scared. Gypsi? Gypsi! Where are you!?" Yelled Lea "Feather! I can't find Gypsi!"

The wolves came almost up to the herd, ready for the kill.

"Gypsi! Where are you!" Lea wailed. "Oh Gypsi!"
