leave the feet alone!

If he's been inside for 7 weeks how did he get the mites? There is no such thing as a silly question right?

I disagree with the recommendation to put the chicks outside to live.

At 7 weeks old that chick most likely is not fully feathered with mature feathers to keep himself warm. I am in central Va and the nights have been cold lately. Most chicks are not fully feathered until 8 - 10 weeks. The heavy breeds can need 12 weeks to feather out. 7 weeks olds still need some heat at night and on cool days.

At 7 weeks I cannot imagine the chick having leg mites or worms. If it has been living in your bedroom and it is picking its feet it must be VERY bored. The chicks need a large place to rome and play and wallow in dust and pick and scratch. Put them outside on warm days in a very safely contained pen. Bring them back in late evening before they get chilled.

At 12 weeks give them an outside home, wean them off the heat and enjoy your little flock.

I've put coconut oil on my chicks legs/feet, and fed them dried shredded coconut (unsweetened), and the problem went away in a few days. Try it!

You are serious. OMGosh! You have a CHICKEN living and walking around in your bedroom. Oh my gosh!

actually i don't let them walk to much in my bedroom unless a garabge bag is under them cause its not healthy for the carpet,if ya know what i mean.lol. its a once in a life time thing!
but yea missprissy awaiting anwser....

If he had mites his legs would look like the scales are coming off. I don't think a 7 week old has leg mites simply because he was picking at his feet. You would know if something was wrong.
