Don't get me wrong, I'd like to visit there. Cuba, like most of the islands
have high crime and poverty rates. Plus the fact it's a communist dictatorship
that attempted to start WW3 doesn't help either.

Personally I'd take St Thomas and spend a week kayaking the islands
then spending time with family that lives on St John, but that's just me.
We all have our preferences.

Heck, I'd love to go with you if I could. The stories would be priceless.

Cuba doesn't have a very high crime rate; per other countries' governments (Britain's and so forth) it's actually safer than many parts of the US. Mostly because nobody's got anything worth stealing.

Maybe you're thinking of Haiti? Haiti is a dump. Seriously, my Haitian co-workers tell me what a horrible place it is. One guy said it's actually worse now than it was when Papa Doc was running the place. C'est dommage.

LCRT, be sure to enjoy some real tree-ripened mangoes there! The kind we get in the grocery store are picked green and not half as good. Ah, would love to go fishing in Cuba...
