Leaving Kids in the Car

I agree with MissPrissy 110%..and Acree. My youngest of 4 is 18yr.old, ..can't remember there ever being a time that I left them in the car..(they wouldn't have it..had to see/know everything I was doing).lol...but I think the stress of worrying about them if I had left them would have been worse than dragging them in with me..I will say when my first two were small, my precious mother,(no longer here) would often ride with us and stay in the car while I ran in places.

I can remember several cases where children were left in cars for very short times: in specific one was at a schoo where the child was snatched from the car and the other l, and another was in her own driveway and the car was stolen. This is not to mention the many, many times that we hear about a child left in a car in the heat---even a very few minutes in a locked car in summer is enough to raise the inside temperature to 120, 130, 140 or more.

My momma left me in the car alone on many occasions when I was little while she ran a short errand. I didn't die although I am sure there were a few times when I was growing up that she hoped someone would just take me.....

My mom always left us (me, sister & brother) in the car so she could run into the grocery store "I'll only be a minute" Famous last words. We'd be in the car for 30 minutes. Bored out of our skulls, then we would argue or fight. Not fun. This was in the late 60's. Sitting that long in the car, any creep observing us would have had an opportunity to ......be a creep.

As long as your car is in your sight, I say go for it. I do it with my kids once in a while(they are in school now so I run errands while they are in school) , but then again I live in the country next to a small town where I was born and raised so I know everyone. If you are in a bigger town or city be extra careful!! Do what you think is right, its definatley a matter of personal preference:)

Boy I remember those days.............. not to mention the laying up by the back window while mom or dad was driving down the highway, OR sitting on dad's lap steering while he drove.

Would any of you pick out the creepiest guy you see and ask him to watch your kids while you run into the store?

No?

Well guess what...if you leave them in the car, he's gonna do it whether you ask or not.

I would never leave my car in a walmart parking lot where many many many people are in and out and you cant even see the car.

I live in a pretty small town. The post office parking lot has very very few parking spots and hardly anyone is even there.

My mom had a friend who ran in walmart once and left her kids in the car. When she returned her kids were wearing those wierd spiral xray glasses then had one of those mini plastic slinkies. When she asked where they got them they told her a man stopped by the car.
That always kind of creeped me out.

I agree. Years ago, my BIL was waiting (and waiting) in the driveway for my DS who was primping. When he could wait no longer, he went inside to holler at my sis. Their child (then) 2 y.o. was secured in a rear carseat. My nephew unbuckled himself from the carseat, crawled into the front seat & shifted the car into Drive. It crashed into their porch. Minimal harm was done to the car & porch. Thank God, the child did not shift into Reverse. He could have gotten killed.

Kids are monkeys!

LOL I think my mom would have agreed with your mom!

I will leave my kids in the car if we are at the gas station and I can see the car the whole time, or something like that. But we live in such a tiny town its not really a worry, theres always someone there who knows those are my kids and would make a fuss if someone tried something. I get nervous tho and if I know I wont be able to see them or that it will be more than 1.5 minutes I bring them in with me.
