Leftovers/treats for chickens

Mine basically only get any meat leftovers. If there's something with a small amount of rice, etc they get that too, but I basically just chuck out stuff like meaty carcass leftovers and the like.

For me personally, owning chickens has reduced my food waste to virtual zero. Nothing is wasted. All kitchen waste is offered to he chickens in their compost pile and they eat as much as they please. I also volunteer at my food bank and bring home between 10-50# of fruits and vegetables, expired pasta and canned goods or opened product. I'll throw the excess in the freezer but nothing is wasted. Food waste from my food truck is tossed to the birds. My family contributes as well. On a weekly basis, they are offered between 0-50#. They eat fermented feed 2x a day and free range. Egg production isn't a concern as I have plenty to give away. My one small contribution to the planet.

Good for you! I take a similar approach. I'll give them regular feed as much as they want, but I'll give them any and all food scraps I can get my hands on.

I recently went on vacation, and my wife literally had to say to me "no, you can't freeze the food scraps in the hotel fridge and bring them home". Every thing I threw away was killing me a little.

I give scraps daily, more as a treat and usually served cold or frozen in the heat of the day. Any produce from the garden we didn’t eat due to over abundance.... they love bell pepper seeds ( when I chop bell peppers to freeze) stale bread, cereal.... I don’t feed them greasy foods or dairy based leftovers.... They get so excited and fuss at me if I go out to their yard empty handed in the late afternoon. LOL
They have their regular feed available all the time.

I was just doing that exact thing this morning, processing a few early peppers into a winter "chili pack" for the freezer. The girls got a small pile of scraps from that. In a few weeks, when I'm processing peppers by the bucket full, they'll get a LOT more.
