Ok, I received some chicks from Julie Gabbard yesterday. They had a tiny little leg band on them, looked just like little hair bands I use on DD! So I did some measuring to see what size they were. Did some checking around. I found some on ebay, you get like 24 for $1.50, you do get to choose your colors and size.

So I got to checking around I found a source for 500!!! yes 500 mixed color by size for $9.00!

Did anyone look at these? I did order some. I'll have to let you know what I think.

I went and looked...so they're like rubber bands, right? I'm interested to see how they work for you, I've been looking at spiral bands on poultry sites but they want you to buy way too many, all in one color. Who would band 1,000 chickens all with green bands anyway, what would be the point?

Somebody here was selling bands in mixed colors a few weeks ago, but I've lost the thread...

Yes they're not for permanent banding of adults. But great for chicks. Mine are still wearing theirs, easy to put on easy to remove to change sizes.

Pardon my ignorance

I'm new to chickens! Why do you need to use legbands? I know in some breeds of pet birds (Quaker Parrots come to mind) you're required to have metal leg bands....but this is the first I've heard of them for chickens. ?????
