Trying to get my "DUCKS in a row" haha, in order to raise chickens. I cant seem to find ANY information about if it is legal to do so in my city, (Elk Grove CA). I know there is a fellow Elk Groveian or two on here....Does anyone have an idea???
Any help is appreciated...

I'm in Sacramento near Hwy 50 and Watt Ave, a few miles north of you. I know the big issue is the size of your lot. Generally you will need to have 10,000 square foot lot to be in compliance with Sacramento County Zoning.

There is some kind of change in the works for Elk Grove to allow for keeping up to six chickens, but no roosters, and animals must be 40 feet from any property line.

They are also re-classifying rabbits as "pets" instead of "livestock"

That's just what seems to be in the works for Elk Grove.

You can always call Animal Control in Elk Grove and hear what they have to say. But keep in mind that Sacramento County Zoning is usually stronger than Animal Control when push comes to shove.

Have a good day!
