I live in the town Battle Ground, IN. I haven't seen any local ordinances and I talked to one of our local CO's, who was very helpful. I know that the nearby city of Lafayette has banned livestock, but do not list quail as a livestock, so it is even possible there. Also, since, coturnix quail are not indigenous to Indiana, I am not required to obtain a game bird breeder license, which I may inevitably get since Bob Whites are native. Does anybody have personal experience advice or suggestions, besides talk to local DNR or local officials, which I have done? I just want to keep everybody happy. Also, are coturnix defined as game bird or livestock?

I did a google search... found lots of info for Battle Ground WA, but nothing for Battle Ground IN. If your town is that small, you may just have to go to City Hall and ask.

hello "neighbor" i live just a couple miles from battle ground. i will be raising some coturnix here in the very near future. it will be nice to have someone in the area that ill be able to turn too if help is needed. im a rookie to all this.

Ha! That's awesome. I'd be happy to collaborate and swap eggs or quail even. Are you out in the rural parts?

There are generally no laws against keeping old world quail or Coturnix quail here in the states. It is the new world quail that they worry about...Bobwhites, Gambels, California, etc...as they do not want you to endanger the natural wild populations of these birds. Cots are not native to this country.

The only laws that might pertain to keeping any Cots would be if your town does not allow poultry in general. You can find that out, as James has said, at your local town hall. :)
