My cream legbar rooster - hatched mid December started crowing about two weeks ago.
The guy told me they don’t start up until they’re six months old and sometimes they’ll be quiet for a year.
What in heavens name??
Waking me up at all hours. I thought I had more time 😭

Sometimes chickens of any breed start crowing really early. I just rehomed a 12 week old male that was crowing. Sorry your boy was an early starter.

All chickens are individuals. And living animals sometimes don't fit into what we might consider the "norm".

I've had some crow as early as 3 weeks old. And another that didn't crow until it was 18 months old.

Also as you are noting.. they don't just crow when the sun comes up. They do crow at all times of the day or night. They may do it in response to something they saw or heard.. headlights passing by, dishes clanging in the kitchen, rats running around, a predator visit, or another rooster crowing off in the distance.. just for a few examples.

Best wishes for you and your flock!

I've got half a dozen cockerels of various breeds crowing. They're all 15 weeks. Started with an Austra White (no surprise there) probably 3-4 weeks ago. He sounded like the chicken equivalent of a boy whose voice is changing at first. Sounds like a rooster now.
