I have 6 chickens. Only one is acting strange compared to behavior up to now. She just walks out in the yard and falls asleep in the middle of doing something. She has normal poop.. it looks like the others poop. She drinks and I believe eating. She pecks on the ground. She has one eye that is infected.. I think she got sawdust in it on Sunday we were cutting wood. She's 22 weeks Friday. She is the only one her age not laying. I have 2 that are 17 weeks. Picture is when she feel asleep pecking in the dirt under the outside faucet.

What are you seeing when you open the eye and look into it? Is there clear or colored drainage, matter or gunk, or crust around the eye? Does she have any other signs, such as a sneeze or cough, nasal drainage or noisy breathing? You could flush her eye out with saline or even water, in case there is sawdust, dirt, or other debris in there. Feed stores sell Terramycin eye ointment, an antibiotic ointment that can be applied twice a day. Vetericyn eye gel is another product that is not an antibiotic. Since she is sleepy, that might fit with a respiratory infection or dehydration. Make sure that she can see and find water and food, or place her in a crate with food and water to watch her. Look at her droppings and check her crop to make sure it is emptying overnight. Look for lice and mites on her skin as well, especially under the vent.

Thanks for the help. I bought the terramycin. They have water and food. She eats and drinks. She wanders around and scratches. She has no cough, no sneezing. She hasnt laid an egg yet. I am still learning about the crop. I am not sure about it. On Monday there didn't seem to be anything I could see. We flushed with water. Tuesday it had some green stuff draining. I checked for lice.. nothing.

I have been using the terramycin for 24 hours. It's hard to find in my little neck of the woods. In the picture you can see how swollen above her eye is compared to the other side. I gently pull down her lid and add the ointment to just at her eyelid where it opens.. is the good? I hope this works soon.. still worried.

Try a warm compress, (cloth with hot water ringed out good) and place it over the eye and hold for a moment, then gently rub downward, do this a couple times a day and if something is in there it will usually surface, and come out, and all the while it feels great. It's very soothing when I use warm compress on my eye so it's gotta feel good for a chicky.
