Leghorn Mystery Hatch- whose your daddy??

Hmm...okay, the lighting was off in the first photo. Every once in a while, a leghorn who will go broody, is born. You got a lucky leghorn.

just can’t figure out the daddy? How could the babies be black if dad was a cream legbar or lemon cuckoo Orpington?

I would think so. She was setting on about 18 eggs that were all a very light tan. Now maybe they were originally white and just got dirty in the black dirt they were in? She was the only hen up there.

But it depends on the mom! It could have been your jersey giant. I think black is dominant in my experiance, over other colors.

They might have been white.. My white eggs turn tan.

My Jersey giant is setting on guinea eggs right now so she hasn’t laid any eggs in over a month.

they got their colour from the mother.

They're from a different hen and she's responsible for their black color.
