Leghorns Don't Get Enough Credit!!!

I’ll always have some White Leghorns in my flock. I currently have 5. I had a cockerel last year but he turned out to be a total jerk. I like the consistency with their egg production, lots of x-large eggs. I also like that I never have to worry about stepping on one. They stay a few steps away from me always, unlike my Speckled Sussex that are constantly under my feet. I’ve had many breeds and mixes and I haven’t found one yet that I favor over a White Leghorn.

Leghorns have been the best egg layers I have ever had. ISA Browns come in 2nd. When I got into different patterns of Leghorns they matured as slow as other birds and not as fast as the white ones. Their eggs were smaller than the white leghorns too. The white leghorns foraged better too and turned over leaves and turned them into organic dirt faster than any other birds I have had. I give White Leghorns all the praise in the world until I have to contain them. Escape artists.

I love my White Leghorn! She’s great! I was a little nervous adding her because I heard they could be flighty but we wanted more eggs and she certainly puts out in that department! LOL and my gal ended up not being flighty at all!!! She’s very bold, curious, brave and full of personality!!! :love she lets me pick her up sometimes too. I also find she’s very industrious. She lays huge white eggs every day since she started and when they’re free ranging, she will scratch and forage on her own while some of the other lazier girls expect us to dig the holes for them :lau
