It'll be my first attemp at incubation. I thought they were very pretty so ordered some eggs to do myself. I also have 11 laying hens of a mixed variety, and 2 roosters, a beautiful Buff Chantecler and a B Jersey Giant. (pics of him on my page) I cannot wait. They'll be January hatches once things get rolling here...I'll keep you posted on progress and subscribe to this thread.

what exactly does the term "cuckoo" refer to?? Lemon is the color, so is cuckoo the barring pattern on the feathers or what?

From the Standard of Perfection....

Cuckoo - a term applied to the coarse and irregular type of Barring found on Dominques, Barred Hollands and Cuckoo Belgian Bearded d'Anvers Bantams.

A "Lemon" or Buff Cuckoo would be a Buff colored bird with the Cuckoo pattern.

Do lemon cuckoos come without barring?
Like they could carry the genes but some could be heterozygous?

No, a bird is either barred or it's not. A female needs a single copy of the gene to be barred. If she is not barred, she does not have the gene. A male can show barring with a single copy or a double copy. Typically if he has a double copy, he displays ligher barring and if he is single copy, his barring will appear darker.
