Yes, you can get golds from a lemon pairing. Lemons have both gold and silver genetics, but neither is fully dominant. So if your lemon pairing throws a gold, that means one of the parents has stronger gold genes. If your lemon adults have a more ‘burnished’ look (like as in more gold in the genotype) you’re likelier to get gold offspring. People will say lemon “doesn’t breed true”. This is true to a certain degree- but your lemon breeding flock can be test bred to select the best breeders that have the right balance of gold and silver.
I’ve been working with them about 3 years now and actually have 3 flocks- a lemon, a gold, and a silver. The silver flock is newer this year and I haven’t completed test breeding. However, with the lemon and the gold flocks, I’m down to 10% off-throw on the color so that’s pretty darn good I think. All 3 spangled colors are accepted Dutch standard colorations according to their SOP and documentation. There are actually a bunch of other color Owlbeard that exist- I’d love to get some one day
