Lemon Owlbeard Eggs

Pics
@ProbablyChickenRelated Sorry to hack an old post but I am looking for Lemon Owlbeard pullets!! I keep trying to hatch eggs and they just aren’t doing well for me. I’m in Kansas but I would be happy to pay transportation if you know people!
Hey there! Send me a message, there are a few transports- Hawton Home Farms, Burlesque Poultry, Cluckingham Carriage Transport. I don’t currently have pullets, as the littles I have are not sexed yet, but maybe they could be DNA sexed and/or depending on timing maybe they will be old enough. The Owlbeards can be a tough hatch in general. I try to tell everyone they make their own rules and take 22 days for whatever reason. Even GFF says that now lol. And also they can just be difficult and shipping doesn’t help- so I know what you mean for sure. I still have my lemons, I love my Owlbeards! I also have gold and silver flocks now too 🥰

@ChickenMathGotMe what part of KS are you in, if it's ok to ask? I'm near Lawrence and haven't met anyone else out here with Owlbeards so we might be a small club when you get yours! :)

So I hatched out 4 babies this year from my pair of Lemons that I hatched last year. 2 are males, one is the spitting image of his father (the lighter color) but the other is a darker yellow - can goldens pop up from lemons or the color just varies? Love them both either way. The girls are both light like the mother was also.

Yes, you can get golds from a lemon pairing. Lemons have both gold and silver genetics, but neither is fully dominant. So if your lemon pairing throws a gold, that means one of the parents has stronger gold genes. If your lemon adults have a more ‘burnished’ look (like as in more gold in the genotype) you’re likelier to get gold offspring. People will say lemon “doesn’t breed true”. This is true to a certain degree- but your lemon breeding flock can be test bred to select the best breeders that have the right balance of gold and silver.
I’ve been working with them about 3 years now and actually have 3 flocks- a lemon, a gold, and a silver. The silver flock is newer this year and I haven’t completed test breeding. However, with the lemon and the gold flocks, I’m down to 10% off-throw on the color so that’s pretty darn good I think. All 3 spangled colors are accepted Dutch standard colorations according to their SOP and documentation. There are actually a bunch of other color Owlbeard that exist- I’d love to get some one day 🥰.
I hope that helps- if you need input or anything feel free to message me 😊

Thank you! To be honest I prefer some surprises in a hatch :D I'm sure it gives professional breeders headaches trying to meet SOP but for a backyard flock I love being able to tell them apart by their quirks. I'd love to see pics of your silver ones!
