Once again, I’ve been MIA, but here’s a quick update.

I’ve been dealing and struggling with a lot of personal issues (physical health and emotional pain) that have been taking a toll on me. I’m so grateful for Bridgette though, she always brightens up my day.

Bridgette has been doing pretty well. She got her spay surgery in February but is all healed up now but it was a rough few weeks trying to keep her calm even with the sedatives the vet gave us 😂

She enjoys being around other people and adores the dog park. We are continuing to work on being chill when not working (shes very good at work but can be a little crazy at home). DPT is coming along well, as is continued self-control.

We’ve cut down on food a little bit since her metabolism has dropped after the spay and she was a few pounds on the heavier side. Her yearly exam showed her in good health!

But overall I think she’s doing really well! :love

She's adorable, I'm glad her training is coming alone so well. I hope you're doing better soon :hugs

Thanks y’all, I really appreciate it! I’m working on getting better, and am just doing some tests before I can get back to doing most of my normal activities (like driving). At the moment I’m doing an at-home (ambulatory) EEG and it’s going okay. Next week I have a cardiology appointment and assuming the results are all positive I can donate blood and drive again 😁

Update on Bridgette:
She will officially be 1.5 years old on May 8th! She’s gotten better at high five, loves ice cubes (which I know might not be the best for her teeth), hasn’t humped for a while, and loves her new Chuck-It.

The weather has been beautiful the last few days as well! She also has an Instagram account, @bridgette_the_golden

Awwwwwww

Here’s something I shared on her IG account that I thought I’d share with y’all. Bri has been doing amazing lately and even has learned a few French words like, “voici” “tu es un très belle fille!” “Arrêt!” And “très bien!”

Bridgette has seen and heard so many things, and still has a lot to learn!

She’s been working on socialization for a long time and here are some of the things she’s seen, felt, and gotten used to:

People feeling her entire body (including paws and mouth) ✅

People of all ages✅

Wheelchairs, walkers, and canes✅

Cars, trucks, bikes, and motorcycles✅

Police and fire truck sirens, train horns✅

Different surfaces and terrain (eg. gravel, cement, drains, dirt, tile, ice, wood, stairs)✅

Automatic sliding doors✅

Pet stores✅

School✅

Church✅

Library✅

Other animals✅

Shopping carts ✅

Fire alarms✅

Crowds✅

But as a service dog, not only does she need to be comfortable in various environments, she needs to be able to focus and listen to cues, as well as perform her tasks to help with my disability.

  • Sit and stay when I drop her leash
  • Walk slightly in front of me but with a loose leash
  • Lay down quietly in class
  • “Place”
  • “Look!” [at me]
  • DPT

However, there is still a lot more I would like to work on with her, including her recall, focusing on me when other dogs are around, and continuing to gain proficiency in tasks, such as “space”, “pick it up”, and interruption.

She’s still a very playful and crazy teenage puppy when she’s off the clock, and has plenty of time to play, snuggle, and rest.
