It has been a while since I have posted. My last post was that 2 of chickens were laying eggs in the same nest and I thought that they were taking turns sitting. It turned out that the little bantam was sneaking in and laying her eggs in the nest. My dark Brahma Bantam stoipped sitting and I lost the chicks. Since then my little bantam got out and was eaten by an owl. Now I just has have my Japanese bantam rooster (King) and my Dark Brahma Bantam hen (Izzy). She has laid about 6 eggs and started sitting on them last week. How long is the incubation period and since our temps have been 102-104 will they hatch?

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we had a Silkie hen set in December in New Hampshire, average temp was about 15 degrees...and she hatched 6 chicks.

Thanks - that is a relief. I don't want to lose these babies. I am very excited - this will be my first time to have babies!

I will. I am thinking around Aug. 1st. I will keep you updated with pictures. I need to know what I need to do before they arrive. This is my first time to have baby chickens. So I am nervous and excited.

I am very upset today. I went out of town for the weekend and when I check on my eggs when I got back they were all gone. I have a snake problem. What can I do to get rid of this problem?
I was only a week away from having fuzzy butts running around.
