Do chickens that lay, for example, every two days or every day and a half like welsummers, need less protein in their diets as opposed to the ones that lay everyday, like leghorns or RIRs? Or do they all still need around the 16/17% mark protein? I ask becasue if a large portion of the protein is needed for egg production, then I cannot understand why the poorer layers need the same amount of protein as the better layers.

Thanks in advance.

it depends on the egg laying breed you have. by standard, laying mash should be given to fowl laying eggs to support the egg shell forming and protein to complete the process.

now if the poorer layer might have some sort of disturbance example sickness, nutritional deficiency or stress. you need to check what you're giving them.

my opinion, poorer layers must be culled it is just not a good investment when the birds don't meet your expectations when it comes to egg laying and meat production.
