Let the showgirl odyssey begin! HATCHING 5/27 C'Mon in!!

Ohhh... Kaaay.
Well, I just candled the remaining 12 eggs... aaaannd... I think I found my problem with this hatch. 8, yes, EIGHT of the 12 were EMPTY!!!!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!

Well, one was about a week along, but then stopped - the rest - MT!
I'm going to blame it on the USPS, but I am also going to let the seller know. Of the 4 remaining "questionable" unhatched eggs, only 1, yes ONE, is white.
So far, my hatch rate is 3/7, not too bad for shipped eggs, I guess.

Hmm well that would explain it. But it's nice to get them out of there so you don't keep watching them.

So you have 4 more eggs going?

Well... I did.
I decided to pick open the air cell - since there was no noticible movement while candling. Here's what I found:
1 white, perfectly formed silkie, failed to pip internally

1 black silkie, lost sometime during that 3rd week, something didn't look quite right about this one.

2 partridge silkies - one perfectly formed, failed to pip and one, well,

So now my 'bator is empty. I'll be setting my peacock eggs on Sun nite/Mon morning.
How are your eggs doing? Still peepin'? I really hope you have better luck than me. Still, I guess 3/7 isn't too bad for shipped eggs.
Keep me updated!

Still waiting. I haven't heard any peeping for a bit, but it's kind of loud in here right now.

I'm holding out hope. I've raised the temp in both incubators so hopefully I won't have to go through this again!

I was so excited about the showgirls I hope some make it.

It's frustrating isn't it when you get them so far and then lose them. Makes you wonder what happened.

Well it appears I have managed to kill another entire set of hatching eggs. Seems everytime I move eggs to the "Hatcher of Doom" they never make it out. I had one peeper yesterday, but he never pipped out.

I have 4 little eggs going off on 6/2 and I am leaving them where they are, they will just get turned with the rest.. and they'll have to hatch out on top of all the rest of the other eggs. Apparently it's their best shot.

I really need to work this out! I have more eggs coming up through the ranks...

Congrats to everyone who got chicks!

Hi Insideart--I'm so sorry about your chicks.

Maybe I am not understanding something, but if you think it is the hatcher, why can they not stay where they are, and you just don't turn them?

Catherine

Well there are several batches going at different hatch dates in the "incubator". So I was moving the eggs that were ready to hatch over to the "hatcher".

From now on eggs will stay where they are... we'll see if that helps any.

Thanks for the sympathies.

Oh...Sure...Of course. I have a hatcher, too, but I filled it with incubating eggs so now I have two incubators with eggs in them, and they will just have to stay where they are.

I REALLY meant to keep the one incubator empty to be, well, a hatcher, but I guess both will have to be both.

I have some Showgirl/Silkie eggs in one of them, the Genesis. These are from Missouri Chick. The last time I candled them, Day 9, they looked good. So I hope they stay that way.

And I put 14 Serama eggs under Big Momma, the Broody hen, last night. She was so happy to have them.

I should be committed.

Catherine

Oh Terri! I'm so sorry you're not getting a hatch?! Have you checked your humidity? Did you you stop turning on day 18? Maybe you should try one batch at a time in the incubator?!

I have no idea what it could be but I'm sorry... I know you were so excited about these.

Aww thanks! From now on I'm trying the you hatch where you grow strategy. I don't care if there are other batches going on. You're just gonna have to get yourself hatched around them.

Surely to goodness I'll get it worked out eventually!
