We all know that vampires are bloodsucking undead. If you get them in the daylight, they disintegrate. Werewolves only change on full moons, at which point you kill them with something pointy and silver. Crossbows, bullets, blades, what-have-you, as long as it's silver. Oh, and vampires can't come into anyone's home unless they are invited. No idea why, but that's the way it works.

Of course, there's also the vampires from I Am Legend. Not pleasant, to say the least.

I <3 garlic too!!!! I am out of fresh garlic right now though. I put a whole clove of elephant garlic in my chicken and dressing broth for Saturday! YUMMMMM! Keeps the vampires away...all the more reason to like it

I love garlic too (proof that I'm not evil by the way), but I cook with SO much of it that everyone elses' food tastes bland.

Yeah I have that problem too, but I have a GREAT excuse to not eat other folks food! DD is allergic to MSG which is in EVERYTHING, and I am on a low sodium diet that I LOVE believe it or not!!! I have lost 30 pounds in the last year!!!!!! Only lost 2 of those in the last few months...plateau, but I am down to under 25 BMI!!! Which is healthy weight, and probably more like 23 BMI by now.....haven't figured my BMI in a while

You lost that weight as a result of cutting down on sodium?? Tell me more.

(ironic I chose the popcorn smiley) I knew sodium causes water weight gain, but haven't heard anything about a low sodium diet reducing weight long term. Interesting. I definitely eat too much sodium and would love to drop 30 pounds!

Being a vegetarian, I too have an excuse not to eat other's food. Even when they THINK it's vegetarian, it's not, because they forget little things like meat broth, etc.

Well I started using alternate natural spices instead of those loaded with salt. Cut back on high salt foods like cheese, bread(!), milk, rich dairy products etc. Your body NEEDS 2400 mg of salt daily. I started with cutting that back to 1800 mg, to detoz the excess out of my system. While doing that I was drinking LOTS of water, it's like an all natural cleansing. I ate LOADS of fruit instead of "snacky" food like chips and such. NO breakfast cereal, Cheerios...the "heart healthy" cereal...HIGH IN SALT! Anyway...LOADS of foods are high in salt content that you wouldnot even think about. Just start "label shopping" and buy products with less sodium in them. I ATE WHATEVER I WANTED so long as it was within my goal of sodium intake for the day. When I ran out of sodium containing food for the day, I just made sure I had non sodium foods to eat to stay full and not be hungry for salty snacks. It was SOOO EASY! I had started having panic attacks and those ended, acid reflux...gone in a few weeks, sluggish lack of energy...gone within a month. I got my healthy appetite back!! I WANTED to eat the better foods after a while. Whole foods are the key, that way you can add or not add the salt if you want. NO SOY SAUCE, few condiments. I used to eat a burger with cheese, mustard, ketchup, pickle, onion....now, sometimes cheese...mainly just with mustard and onion. Ketchup is very high in sodium. Mayo is okay sparingly, mustard sparingly, ranch dressing...NO NO! Most condiments is where we get loaded down with sodium...it's sad. When I tried to lose before...carrot sticks in ranch, and I thought I was doin good

SO WASN'T! I'm telling you, I have tried to lose for a DECADE, and until this, I would lose and regain maybe 5 pounds. Now...still losing, and actually ENJOYING experimenting with the diet! Lemon juice, has been a lifesaver to replace salty flavor! Anyhooooo, that's about it.

Oh, and I quit caffeine too, but STILL drink SODA! Low sodium ones that is! Anyway, my energy has shot THROUGH THE ROOF! DD who is 13....has a hard time keeping up with me now..and DH, well we'll just say he likes the diet too

Well, that sounds pretty good. I don't do sweets, I like salty stuff, like Cheez-it's, sharp cheese, and eat a lot of frozen convenience foods like mac & cheese, etc., so I KNOW I'm eating too much sodium. I'm gonna have to try this, although speaking of panic attacks, I may have a few just missing my Cheeze-It's.
hmm.png
But this is really interesting. I actually don't use salt at all, loose, on my food, and I do like a lot of alternative spices, so that part will be easy. But breaking away from the convenience foods will be a challenge because I live alone and whenever I buy a bunch of fresh produce, etc., it always goes bad before I can eat it all. But I'm going to try this!! Oh, and I'm with you on lemon juice. I use lemon juice and black pepper on my salads instead of dressing, although I was doing it to reduce fat not sodium, but I'll try lemon juice on other things too. I don't drink soda ever, so I'm all set on that part at least. Thanks!

Yep. It's almost but not quite a raw or natural food kind of progression toward diet. Processed=high sodium usually. On the fresh fruits/veggies...try drying them! Buy up a bunch and if you have to, just before they start to go bad dry them. I dry and freeze bananas, and have my 6 yr old niece addicted to those
lol.png
I also dry tomatoes, jalapenos, onion etc. for cooking. I eat meat, so that has been a stumbling block in a way. Alot of supermarket "fresh meats" are injected with sodium as preservative
roll.png
I do make my own jerky, and that is HARD to not eat!! VERY high in salt
sad.png
I cut salt in homemade breads, cakes, and desserts. I eat a LOT of brownies
tongue.png
I have had one a day for the last week, and still lost a pound this week
wink.png
I do make a whole lot of my food from scratch now, but when I was still working, I still did well on the diet even not having enough time to make foods for myself.
