My Bunny Story Continues…

I read that bunnies frequently do not like or accept just any buddy bunny you bring home for them.
In fact, they can be downright persnickety about it.
And as fate would have it, Petunia hated Lilly.
I kept them next to each other with fencing in between for several days, hoping they would take to each other. But when the day came, I put them together, and Petunia attacked Lilly.
Sigh.
So I let them live separately, but seeing each other through a fence for a few more days and then tried again. No good.
A few more days and again, nope.
And it turns out my mom didn’t like Lilly either. Go figure. How could anyone not like Lilly?
Is Petunia destined to be an only bunny?

I felt so bad for Lilly but wasn’t going to give up trying to get them to bond. I hoped that eventually they would accept each other. That’s when a friend of mine came to visit and instantly fell in love with Lilly! She wanted to buy Lilly from me and suggested that I go back to the Amish breeder and try one more time for a female lionhead friend for Petunia. Oh boy.
Now this in-and-out bunny trading business is getting ridiculous I thought, but fine- I let her take Lilly home.
Yet I wasn’t sure that I should even try again…

Rabbits can be *very* territorial. When trying to introduce, do it in a neutral space without any of their scents.

Poor little Lilly.

Honestly, I find my rabbits do just fine as singles. Even kits that grow up together will turn on one another when those hormones hit!

After a week of single bunnyhood, I went to see if the Amish greenhouse place was still selling barbecue chicken on Saturdays… (just going for chicken! Not for bunnies!, no no no)
Who am I fooling? I couldn’t help but ask-
“any more bunnies for sale?
… any females?”
Oh yes! We have!
And now - we have - sweet little Mimi 😍

What a little cutie she was so little I honestly think she was too young to be completely off her mama‘s milk so I decided to buy some kitten formula and a tiny bottle for her 🥰
