Thank you!

(And by the way the drunken karaoke WAS the tyvek shed; I always found it so ironic, $40k worth of audio equipment but no one thinks of siding or interior ceilings. Beautiful light figures screwed into clear poly over insulation.

The stories I could tell if that thread had stayed open, so much more has happened since then!

Speaking of small town youth Jamie, here's one for old time's sake: When I first was looking at this house and knew nothing of this town (I still actually know very little; the karaoke soap opera was enough to keep me to myself for the last couple years), I walked into the local pizza joint for lunch after looking at the house and parting ways with my realtor. I asked the "kid" (19-20ish?) behind the counter how this town was, that I was thinking about moving here. He said that it was a nice town, quiet, not much to do but good. Then he said there has been some "trouble with the youth" in the past. Those were his words. Trouble with the youth. I thought that was an odd thing for a almost kid to say....youth... like he was quoting a local newspaper perhaps. I asked what kind of trouble and he said that a couple of kids had been caught a couple years back tipping over gravestones in the cemetery downtown. While unfortunate, this didn't sound like a deal breaker for moving into the town, bored kids 'happen' everywhere. He said the downtown area (which is less than a square mile by the way) is not as nice as the outskirts because the houses have been turned into apartments. I knew what he meant, I could see the downtown area was vastly different than the rolling farm hills a few miles away, where I was looking at the house to buy. He asked where I was looking to buy, and I mentioned the road hesitantly, thinking he might not even know it, for it was a tiny dirt road out in the sticks miles from town.

To my surprise he knew exactly where I meant and even knew what house I was looking at. He said he grew up on my road. There's only a few houses on my road, so I asked him which house. He said "near the horse farm" most likely, but at the time I just heard "at the horse farm", so I always thought he lived at the farm down the hill from me. He said he didn't live there anymore but his parents still do.

So fast forward now a couple of years. "Trouble with Youth?" Yeah.. here's a post on that for anyone interested, but other than this event, it hasn't been too bad. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=547830&p=1

So
after my mailboxes were brutally vandalized a few months ago (see link above), I was talking to one of my neighbors at the next house down the hill. I was telling him about what happened with the mailboxes and one thing led to another and at some point I said "Well, I was warned when I moved here that the kids like to get into trouble..." and he agreed and said that the parents do nothing about it either and proceeded to tell me about how a few years back his son had tipped over some gravestones in town and he went with him to stand them back up and to replant flowers, etc., and how the parents of the other kids involved did nothing. I remembered the story I had been told when I first bought this house. I said "Oh, that was your son? I heard about that! The kid down at the J's Pizza told me about it." He looked at me funny, and said "Which kid?" And I said, "The one that's always there, cute kid, blonde hair, quiet but nice". He said "THAT'S my son." I stood there at his garage, puzzled, putting it all together like a scene in a movie. The kid in the pizza place warning me of "troubled youth", of kids tipping over gravestones, of growing up "at the horse farm".... I looked across the road from my neighbors garage at the horse farm and realized all at once this was the same kid. HE is the one who tipped over gravestones....HE was the "troubled youth". I was really quite amused that this kid had to you-know-what's to warn me about the troubled youth and to even use his own behavior as an example! I found it all quite ironic. He wasn't involved in my mailbox bashing by the way, he's apparently now grown out of his troubled ways.

Anyway, on Jamie's mention of small town youth, it made me think of that so I thought I'd share. How did this thread get dug back up anyway??? I remember the night we started this thread, we were having a religious battle, albeit a friendly one, but accidentally-mostly crashed another thread first, and were forced to retreat here to continue our late night absurdities.
