My new chick hatched in Wednesday evening still attached to egg shell with a white mucus and umbilical looking string. Feet curled, peeping loudly but wasn't able to move well. She she sleeps all the time, hardly opening her eyes. She can, but she just doesn't often. She'll peep when you pick her up, but won't eat or drink anything on her own. I have to drop water on her beak but won't peck at the food or water.I've resorted to wetting her food and putting it in the dropper to get some food in her. Not sure what's going on, but she is not thriving or doing anything any normal chick would do. I'm at a complete loss for what to do.

I tried placed in sandals on her, but they caused her feet to get tangled up and she definitely couldn't move then. I wound up taking them off of her shortly after. When she first started with the lethargy (12 hours after hatching), I noticed bright liquidy green droppings in the incubator. Now they are dark green and white. But she is also getting pasty butt. I washed her bottom in warm soapy water last night. It's already back.

Sorry to say, it don't sound good....The 'umbilical' looking string was just that, not sure about the white mucus. The green poop is a concern, use just warm water to clean the butt, gently with a Q Tip or soft rag. Roada Red suggestion for electrolytes in drinking water is a good idea. Keep it warm, hydrated & keep trying to get it to eat, maybe some baby bird food? Hopefully someone with more experience will reply soon. Hoping your chick gets better.

This is her belly this morning. Her feet and tummy are looking yellow, like jaundiced. I gave her some Gatorade last night and this morning as it's the only electrolyte drink I have.

That's her belly button. The umbilical cord is still there but the white stuff is what I was talking about. I'm not sure if I should clean it and with what?

She's still not eating or moving around much. Put shoes on her and she continues to have a hard time walking around, gives up and lays down.
