Lethargic and "bloated"

Went out last night to put the girls up to find one on the coop floor. Thinking they'd just jostled her off the perch and with it being dark she couldn't get back up, I put her into a nest box for safety thinking if there'd been an issue with one of the others, I didn't want her getting knocked to the floor again.
ANWAY - this morning, she's on the floor again, so at some point, she'd moved around. She is still lethargic. Her tummy, however, is bloated feeling. Could she be egg bound? How do I help her? Her crop feels spongy, so she's digesting food (or I'm assuming so). No excretions from anywhere and that I can tell, there are no actual "injuries".

I lost another one very similar to this a bit over a year ago - - - No one else seems down, so I'm hoping it's egg bound and I can help her????

Hi Diane, I'm not sure what you can do but if you search egg bound I think you may find some help. Hopefully someone else can chime in here...good luck!

what color is her poop? how is she standing?
make sure she's eating and drinking. check her crop for fullness at the end of the day.
Tell us everything you can.

May not be egg bound. Could be ascites or internal laying or ovarian ecoli infection. You'll have to check for an egg first, but that usually doesn't bloat the belly like that. I've saved several birds with this and lost a few, too. Sometimes, 4 days of penicillin injections will kick out infection, but we'll need more information first.

Just went and checked on Aurora. She's standing - a bit "hunched", but not really - yeah, I'm sure that helps. Her feathers are a bit puffed out - as if she's trying to stay warm. Her tail is down - she usually proudly displays those feathers.

Her poop is VERY white with a teensy bit of yellow to it. Looks a mess back there, so I'm heating some water now and will go clean her up. I've heard of their vents getting blocked and killing them, so I'm going to see if that's an issue - certainly can't hurt.

I am going to see about the "fish mox" that was used on another's post. Someone asked how her bird was doing, but she never replied. Sure would have loved hearing "she's doing great".

THANK YOU for any help you can give me.

Diane

It does sound like she's got an infection. If it was me, I'd be starting her on a course of Penicillin G antibiotics. When was the last time she laid an egg?

I'd maybe try some CORID??? Sounds like Cocci to me...

cocci would have blood in the poop, wouldn't it? I've never had cocci here, but I thought blood in the poop was telltale.

Oh, and is the poop runny or formed?

speckledhen and I have been seeing the internal laying, with exactly these symptoms.

eta - I have to go to work, so hoping others will keep helping you. Good luck!

Just checked again - she's walking a bit - ate goodies I offered everyone. The poop is runny - very runny.

Penicillin G - I'm guessing that's a shot? Just what I didn't want to do. I've given my g/friend's cat's insulin injections - is it the same kind of thing? I know NOTHING about doing this part - - - help?

in the later stages, it will be bloody but if it's not a full blown infection, runny is common. Ruffled feathers and the cold appearance is usually cocci...
